Born in 1901, Dr. Martens is the shoe which people across the globe freely associate rugged build-quality, self-expression and the daring to be different. At Stuarts London we stock a wide range of the Dr. Martens & Dr. Martens Archive collection, celebrating the rich history & original craftmanship methods of the Dr. Martens brand.
Dr. Martens’ origins date to 1945, when Dr. Klaus Martens, a 25-year-old soldier and medical doctor at the time, created a unique air-cushioned sole (rather than the traditional hard leather sole) to aid his recovery from a broken foot. Dr. Martens made a prototype shoe and showed it to a friend and engineer, Dr. Herbert Funk. The two went into partnership and by 1947 they began formal production of their unique shoe. Within a decade they had a booming business. By 1952, sales had significantly grown so much that they opened a factory in Munich.
The Dr Martens Archive collection focuses on popular archive styles, using original manufacturing techniques & revisiting some of their most iconic designs. Browse all the classic styles such as the 1460 Ankle Boot, 2976 Ankle Boots, 1461 shoes and more. The shoes utilise a Goodyear welt construction known for its durability and clean lines.
