Started by Reynold 'Reyn' McCullough in Catalina Island, California. Reyn after a trip to Hawaii in 1957 was inspired by the island lifestyle and look and feel of Hawaii. He eventually moved his clothing store to Honolulu, Hawaii, seeing a great business opportunity. He soon garnered a reputation all over the island for the quality of his garments after teaming up with expert seamstress Ruth Spooner creating the brand name Reyn Spooner.
Reyn wanted to push the design of the traditional Hawaiian shirt and took inspiration from traditional Ivy style - giving the shirts a more sharp tailored look with further varieties of fabrics and patterns. He even went so far to design his own signature fabric, lightweight blend cotton and spun poly that is durable, wrinkle-free, and breathable.
