Behind The Label

Founded in 1913 by the Schott brothers - Irving and Jack - in New York, Schott NYC is world renowned for being the first to produce a zippered jacket when creating the iconic Perfecto motorcycle Schott jacket. Famous for being made out of horsehide whilst also including a belted front as well as a D-pocket, flap change pocket, zippered sleeve cuffs and shoulder epaulettes, this classic motorcycle jacket was a double rider’s jacket design which meant that one part of the front zipper was located a couple of inches in. When zipped up this created a seal where no air would pass through when riding a motorcycle.

Also creating clothing for the US Military during World War II and for American law enforcement, Schott UK has become one of the most recognisable heritage designers across the globe. Backed up by being a regular on the silver screen with it's most significant appearance being when Marlon Brando wore a Schott jacket in the movie The Wild One in 1953. Because the film was the first outlaw biker movie at the time, the black motorcycle jacket became synonymous with a bad attitude and was banned from many American schools during the 1950's.
