In the sweltering summer of 1967, around 100,000 spirited youths-later dubbed "hippies"-flocked to San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district, igniting a defining chapter in countercultural history. Amid the turbulence of the Vietnam War and sweeping societal unrest, this mass gathering radiated a yearning for freedom, peace, and love. The era became a canvas where military attire, once a symbol of conflict, was reimagined by returning veterans and protestors alike; garments like the M-65 Field Jacket were transformed into emblems of resistance and harmony. Among those returning from war was Mr Fliks, a Vietnam veteran from Redondo Beach, California. Carrying with him a deep respect for the vulcanised -Deck Shoes- worn by US Navy sailors, he saw an opportunity to blend function with sentiment. Launching his own line, he discreetly honoured his roots by stamping -Redondo Beach, CA- and two stars-evoking the Californian night sky-near the ankle bone. In doing so, Mr Fliks' legacy became interwoven with the era's cultural shift, where echoes of war evolved into peaceful statements of style, and military gear found new life in the hands of those who longed for change.
